Banana Boat Sunscreen Review
Living in the South, I’ve come to appreciate the importance of a reliable sunscreen when playing tennis mid-afternoon. While many people share my distaste for applying sunscreen (who can blame us?), I’m thrilled to have discovered one that’s made the process a pleasant experience. Yes, you read that correctly – I genuinely enjoy using this particular sunscreen!
In this review, I’ll be sharing my thoughts on Banana Boat Sun Comfort Sunscreen with SPF 50, recently rebranded as Banana Boat Dry Balance. Keep reading for my honest take on this product.
Banana Boat Sunscreen Review of Sun Comfort and Dry Balance
As I delve into this blog post, my primary focus will be on analyzing and reviewing the Banana Boat Sun Comfort sunscreen, recently rebranded as Banana Boat Dry Balance. The review is centered around assessing the performance and benefits of this specific product within the Banana Boat lineup. To provide a comprehensive overview, I’ll draw attention to key features and characteristics that set it apart from other sunscreens in the market.
Banana Boat Sunscreen Review: 5 Things I Like
In my assessment of the Banana Boat Sun Comfort Sunscreen (recently rebranded as Dry Balance), five key factors have contributed to its impressive performance. In fact, after a positive experience with the product, I went ahead and purchased three more bottles at a discounted price.
It’s Quick and Easy to Apply (#1 Reason It Gets My Glowing Review)
The Banana Boat Sun Comfort SPF 50 sunscreen boasts a unique application experience that’s surprisingly enjoyable. Unlike many other sunscreens, you don’t need to spend time massaging it into your skin – simply smooth it on and enjoy the silky texture. In fact, applying this sunscreen is reminiscent of using your favorite skincare lotion; effortless and easy to get right.
It Soaks in Quickly
Unlike those sunscreens that leave your skin feeling chalky and pasty, the Banana Boat Sun Comfort Sunscreen offers a game-changing experience. As soon as you apply it, the lotion absorbs seamlessly into your skin, leaving you with a smooth, even finish that lasts. The best part? It’s all thanks to its unique formula that allows for effortless absorption, making it perfect for everyday use.
It Smells Amazing
While many may not prioritize scent when it comes to sunscreens, I confess that a pleasant aroma can make all the difference. For me, the Sun Comfort sunscreen by Banana Boat embodies the essence of a tropical getaway, evoking memories of Estee Lauder’s iconic Bronze Goddess perfume. The moment I apply this sunblock, I’m instantly transported to a serene beachside oasis.
This sensory experience is a significant factor in my glowing review, which awards Banana Boat’s Sun Comfort sunscreen an impressive 5 out of 5 stars.
It’s Not Sticky Like Other Sunblocks
While I’ve experimented with more affordable options like Up&Up’s sunblocks from Target, I found them to be unpleasantly tacky and uncomfortable on my skin. Similarly, many sport-specific sunscreens also tend to leave a sticky residue. In contrast, Sun Comfort sunscreen has managed to break away from this common issue, offering a smooth and comfortable application experience.
It’s Not Watery
While I’m a fan of the Max Block Sunscreen from Dollar Tree ($1!), its affordability and pleasant scent are major draws for me. However, I do find it to be somewhat watery in texture, which isn’t my personal preference. On the other hand, the Sun Comfort sunblock boasts a more appealing consistency that I appreciate.
Banana Boat Sunscreen Review: What I Don’t Like About Banana Boat Sunscreen
It’s Not a Spray
When applying sunblock in the morning, I opt for a spray over traditional lotions due to my frequent exposure to dirt or sweat. This preference eliminates the need to reapply lotion after washing my hands. Having tried Banana Boat Sun Comfort spray, I was underwhelmed by its scent. In contrast, Neutrogena Beach Defense SPF 50 spray has become my go-to choice. With a high SPF and effective defense against the sun’s rays, this spray is a reliable option for daily use.
Banana Boat Sunscreen Rubs Off When Sweating
While the Banana Boat Sun Comfort sunblock provides excellent protection for daily use, its lack of water resistance is a significant drawback. As someone who appreciates its benefits in everyday situations – even during runs – I’ve found that it doesn’t withstand my intense tennis matches, where excessive sweating necessitates frequent reapplication and potential removal of the sunblock due to its non-water-resistant nature.
Where to Buy Banana Boat Sunscreen
When it comes to purchasing the Banana Boat Sun Comfort sunblock, you have a range of options available. In addition to buying directly from the manufacturer or authorized retailers, you can also find it at popular retail stores like Target and CVS, as well as online through Amazon. I personally picked up mine during a sale at TJ Maxx! As an Amazon Prime member, I often take advantage of free shipping on my online orders, making it a convenient option for me.
If you’re interested in purchasing the Sun Comfort formula, you can find it listed on Amazon for $10.
High Endurance vs. Water Resistant Banana Boat Sunblock
The label on the Banana Boat Sun Comfort sunscreen caught my attention – ‘High Endurance vs. Water Resistant’. I’m curious, do others share my confusion about this distinction? After a quick fact-check, I can now enlighten you:
Water Resistant Sunscreen
When it comes to water-resistant sunscreens, the key benefit is that they form a stronghold on your skin even when you’re submerged in water. This is achieved by incorporating specific ingredients that help the sunscreen stick to your skin despite being exposed to liquid. According to experts like EltaMD, this means that if you apply water-resistant sunscreen and then spend up to 40 minutes swimming or engaging in other aquatic activities, the SPF level will remain intact.
However, it’s worth noting that not all sunscreens offer this feature, such as Banana Boat Sun Comfort. While some people may prefer the added security of a water-resistant formula, others might find the sticky texture unappealing – and I’m one of them.
High Endurance Sunscreen
While scouring the internet for definitions on ‘high endurance’ sunscreen, I came up empty-handed. It appears that Banana Boat is using this term to convey a sense of confidence in their product, implying that although it may not be water-resistant, it’s still an excellent choice. The phrase essentially translates to, ‘This isn’t a water-repellent sunblock, but trust us, it’s a great one!’
Waterproof Sunscreen
In a significant shift, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has clarified its stance on the labeling of sunscreens. Gone are the days when manufacturers could boast about their products being ‘waterproof.’ Instead, they’re now limited to claiming that their sunscreens are merely ‘water-resistant.’

Banana Boat Sunscreen for “Brushing Off Sand Easily”
When I stumbled upon the Sun Comfort SPF 50+ sunscreen from Banana Boat, I couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow at the brand’s bold claim: ‘Sand easily brushes off.’ The phrase left me wondering what they meant by it. Does this mean that the sunscreen has a special property that allows sand to effortlessly slide away? Or perhaps it refers to the product’s ability to remove stubborn sand particles from skin? Whatever their intention, I couldn’t help but feel intrigued by this rather…
unconventional marketing move.
For Beach Volleyball Players…
The reality of playing beach volleyball is that getting sandy is an inevitable part of the experience. Whether you’re slathering on sunscreen or not, there’s always a good chance you’ll end up with a layer of sand stuck to your skin. And the best part? It’s not even worth worrying about. A quick brush or towel wipe-down, followed by a refreshing shower, is all it takes to get back to your beach volleyball game in no time.
For Beach Goers…
Heading to the beach? The process of removing sand from your skin is relatively straightforward! Unlike other types of debris, such as water-based pollutants or stubborn dirt, sand can be easily brushed away. In fact, a simple towel-off or brief exposure to sunlight for 3-5 minutes is often all it takes to remove unwanted grains. No need to break out the special sunblock or worry about tedious scrubbing.
Banana Boat Sunscreen Review for the Beach
While the notion that sand easily brushes off after using Banana Boat’s sunscreen may be an exaggeration, I’d like to focus on the product’s more significant advantages. The Banana Boat Sun Comfort SPF 50+ sunblock is a great value and a reliable choice for those seeking a non-sticky, grease-free, or watery application experience.
Banana Boat Sunscreen Review Summary: I Like Sunblock by Banana Boat!
While I’m thoroughly pleased with the Banana Boat sunscreen and Sun Comfort SPF 50+ sunblock, it’s worth noting that I recently snagged a great deal at TJ Maxx – three additional bottles to see me through the summer season. For those interested in purchasing this product, Amazon is a convenient option, offering it for just $10.
